Our Journeys to Now

The City of Lafayette Arts & Cultural Resources Department is hosting a Call for Entry for the "Our Journeys to Now" exhibit, a group exhibition featuring artwork made by Colorado artists in all types of media. The exhibit will hang at The Collective Community Arts Center (201 N. Public Road, Lafayette, CO 80026) from July 16 to September 20, 2026. In 2026, two historic milestones converge: the nation's 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and Colorado's 150th year of statehood. This exhibition invites artists to submit work that engages with local and regional histories, elevates underrepresented or overlooked narratives, or offers contemporary responses to the past.

Artists are encouraged to explore historical themes through research, lived experience, cultural memory, and storytelling. Submissions may reference documented events, community traditions, oral histories, archival materials, artifacts, maps, photographs, or personal and collective memory. Interpretive, critical, and imaginative approaches to history are welcome. Both 2D and 3D works will be considered, and all media are eligible. Works will be selected based on conceptual strength, depth of historical engagement, craftsmanship, originality, and overall artistic merit. The exhibit will feature approximately 30 pieces of 2D wall-hung works and 10–12 sculptures or 3D works. All works must be appropriate for all ages viewing.

Entry deadline is May 14, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Notification date is Friday, May 29, 2026. Artwork drop-off is Monday, July 13, 10am-5pm or Tuesday, July 14, 9am–noon. The exhibit reception is Friday, July 17, 2026, 6-8pm. Artwork pick-up is Monday, September 21, 9am-5pm. Submissions must include JPG images (1-3 per artwork), artwork information (title, size, date, media), and an artwork statement focusing on the work submitted. Open to all Colorado artists.
