Our Heritage thru the Arts

This exhibition focuses on heritage and is open to all artists eighteen years or older who reside in the United States. Artists may interpret the heritage theme in any way, and works may be 2-D or 3-D in any medium including painting, drawing, sculpture, fiber art, and photography. All works must be suitable for a family-friendly audience and may be realistic or abstract realism. The main goal is to strengthen the community and art lovers by increasing their appreciation of heritage through art.

Entry fee is $25.00 for the first entry and $5.00 for each additional entry, with a maximum of 3 entries per artist. The number of acceptable entries will be determined by jurors. Entries must be original work, submitted dry, securely framed or canvas wrapped, wired and ready to hang. No glass is permitted; use acrylic or plexiglass instead. 3-D work must be able to stand alone without attachment to surfaces. A three to five sentence statement about each piece is requested to help judges place entries in one of three categories: local, state/regional, or national.

Entries are juried by community art lovers and art professionals from Miller County, Arkansas and Bowie County, Texas. Awards total $2,500.00: Local Heritage ($500.00), State/Regional Heritage ($500.00), National Heritage ($500.00), People's Choice ($250.00), and Mayor's Award ($750.00). The People's Choice award will be selected by exhibition visitors. The Mayor's Award will be selected by the mayors of Texarkana, Arkansas and Texarkana, Texas. The exhibition runs October 26 - November 30, 2019, with a reception and awards ceremony on October 26 at 2:00 p.m. Accepted artwork must be delivered by October 16, 2019. Artists may hand-deliver to 1894 Gallery, 105 Olive, Tuesdays-Saturdays 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., or ship via FedEx or UPS with pre-paid return shipping labels. Reusable shipping containers only; no packing peanuts allowed.
