About This Call
Colorado Creative Industries seeks to acquire public art through direct purchase of existing artworks for Otero Junior College's renovated Agriculture Science Wing. The total funding available is $8,000, provided by the state of Colorado's Art in Public Places Program. This opportunity is open to Colorado artists only, with applications due July 19, 2019.
Otero Junior College is looking to acquire one or more artworks for display in the new Agriculture Science addition. The Public Art Selection Committee seeks artworks that embrace the agriculture focus of the program and spark curiosity in students while speaking to the history of La Junta and/or the region or agricultural history of the area. Works reflecting the diversity of agriculture practices and the influence of migrant populations in the agriculture community are welcome. Due to building design and usage needs, 2D works are the main type considered. Works may be sculptural if wall-mounted and do not protrude more than 4". The committee will consider all media including paintings, photography, mixed media, and fabric. Artwork will be hung in the corridor between the lab, computer lab and classroom, and possibly the student lounge. The corridor ceiling height is 9'6".
The Art Selection Committee will evaluate artist location (must be Colorado-based), thematic relevance, artistic excellence, technical competence, scale, material, form and content, and ease of maintenance. Artists must deliver selected artworks to Otero Junior College in La Junta, Colorado in fall 2019. Artwork must be ready to hang and framed if applicable, with frames in good condition. Artworks priced at or below $8,000 will be considered; those exceeding $8,000 are ineligible. Artists may submit 1-3 images of up to 3 available artworks through the CaFÉ online application system. There is no application fee. The selection panel will meet in August/September 2019, with notification of purchases and artwork delivery scheduled for September/October 2019.
