Orson Welles Centennial Art Show

May 2015 marks the 100th birthday of Orson Welles. Although born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Welles considered Woodstock, Illinois his hometown. He attended the Todd School for Boys in Woodstock and established a lifelong friendship with schoolmaster Roger Hill, who inspired his artistic and creative development. At the Todd School, Welles joined the theater program, leading to his directorial debut at age 18 with his first Shakespeare play at the Woodstock Opera House.

In honor of Welles' connection to Woodstock, the Old Court House Arts Center is hosting a centennial art show celebrating Orson Welles. The call is for artwork inspired by the life, theater, films, art, or themes of Orson Welles. Original work in any media is welcome from all artists regardless of location. Artists must explain in their Artist's Statement why each submitted piece was inspired by Orson Welles. Up to 3 pieces can be submitted. The jury fee is $25, regardless of the number of pieces submitted. There is a 30% commission for any work sold during the show. Work can be submitted as Not For Sale; if selected, there is an additional $20 show fee. The show will be on display for the month of May at Woodstock's historic Old Court House Arts Center. During May, Woodstock will host a centennial celebration and festival with speakers, film screenings, live performances, and additional Orson Welles historic displays.

All artists 18 or older regardless of location may submit original work. Work must be available through the entire run of the show. Gallery size limitation is 8 feet in any single dimension and 50 lbs. Cash prizes will be offered; amounts will be based on the number of works submitted and announced upon acceptance. Entries must include artist name, title of artwork, price (including 30% commission, or 'NFS' if not for sale), materials list, and an Artist's Statement up to 250 words maximum.
