About This Call

The Fire Pit and Fire Sculpture Competition at Oregon WinterFest is a dynamic display of both functional fire pits and imaginative use of fire as a medium creating warmth, light, and excitement. The competition is divided into two categories: Fire Pit and Fire Sculpture.

Fire Pit entries must be designed and constructed to be used principally as a heat source and gathering point in a residential or commercial setting, typically although not exclusively wood fueled. Fire Sculpture entries are sculptural pieces incorporating fire with any fuel source. Proposed work can be fabricated in any non-flammable material and must be an original design constructed specifically for this event. Submissions must include a drawing of the original piece, 3 images of current work (not required if previously accepted to this event), and an artist bio. All submissions must include a non-flammable barrier to protect installation turf from scorching. Entry fee is $25.

Accepted artists must deliver their piece to the site in Bend, Oregon on Thursday, February 14th or before 12pm on Friday, February 15th. Load out is Sunday, February 17th after 6:30pm or Monday, February 18th before 12pm. Awards will be judged onsite with an awards ceremony Saturday evening. Awards include a $5,000 purchase of a piece from either category, plus cash awards: 1st place $500, 2nd place $250, 3rd place $150. All proceeds from competition submitted works sold or commissioned onsite belong to the artist with no commission taken; a 25% commission applies for work sold within the Fire Gallery. A VIP reception on Friday, February 15th evening is included for all artists plus one guest with dinner and beverages. Lay It Out Events offers 10 fellowships for artists traveling from outside Central Oregon, including 3 nights lodging, a $100 gas stipend, and food vouchers and cash to offset additional costs.
