About This Call
Orange County Public Art Opportunity
The Orange County Public Art Review Board seeks an artist or artist team to develop artwork for a dedicated site located south of I-4 at the Grand National Drive overpass. The artwork should capture the character and culture of the community and visually enhance the public space. For a region that sees more than 70 million visitors a year, the art will showcase Central Florida's artistic side. The site is located northeast of I-4 at the Kirkman Road exit ramp, across Grand National Drive from the western terminus of Oak Ridge Road, within the boundaries of both the City of Orlando and the International Drive overlay plan.
This opportunity is open to professional artists working in three-dimensional media. The artwork must be permanent and durable with little maintenance needed. Works will be reviewed for artistic excellence, durability, safety, and appropriateness to the site. Artworks must be structurally sound and able to withstand an outdoor environment in Orlando's subtropical climate with hot, humid conditions, intense sun, seasonal heavy rains, and hurricane-force winds. A budget of $200,000 has been approved for artwork, inclusive of all related expenses including permitting, infrastructure, lighting, and fabrication.
Submission Requirements: Professional resume (teams must submit resumes for each member), letter of interest outlining interest in the project and preliminary statement of approach, and a minimum of one image (maximum 12). Images of finished works or conceptual drawings can be submitted. Experience with public art projects with a similar budget is desired. Three finalists will be selected to provide proposals and will each receive a $2,000 stipend. Final artist selection will take place after review of proposals. Deadline: November 6, 2019, midnight MST. Contact: Terry Olson, Director, Arts & Cultural Affairs, [email protected], 407-836-5540.
