About This Call
The Orange County Artist Guild is accepting applications for new membership. Applicants must be active artists who live or maintain a studio in Orange County, NC. The application deadline is January 31, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MST. The nonrefundable application fee is $25. Applicants may submit up to 2 applications if working in two distinct media, with a separate $25 fee for each application.
Applications must include: 5 images of artwork (6th image of studio/workspace optional), a resume (2 pages maximum) outlining art-relevant experience, and an artist statement (2,000 character limit) describing artistic philosophy and processes. Images must be in JPEG or JPG format, sRGB color space, at least 1200 pixels on the longest side, and smaller than 5MB. Submitted images must not include matting or framing and should be cropped to show only the artwork. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
The Guild hosts an annual Orange County Open Studio Tour (first two weekends in November), annual Winter and Spring shows, and quarterly member meetings with educational programs. Members receive a page in the OCAG website Gallery, access to organizational social media and blog, a listserv with exhibition and job opportunities, and participation in forums and workshops. Annual membership dues are $100 per calendar year (January 1 - December 31). New members pay dues after being juried into the Guild. Studio Tour participation fee is $500, reducible to $250 with completion of at least 8 hours of committee work.
The Guild is seeking 1 to 3 artists between ages 21 and 30 for "Young Adult Emerging Artist" positions. Selected artists will have their annual $100 membership fee and $250 Studio Tour fee waived for one year, as well as fees for online exhibitions (the $25 application fee still applies). Applicants for these positions should not plan to be enrolled in a degree program (except BFA or MFA) during their membership year. Information sessions are scheduled for January 5 and January 19, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at Drift coffeeshop in Chapel Hill. Notifications of acceptance or denial will be sent in mid-to-late February 2025.
