About This Call
Silverthorne Arts and Culture is seeking an artist to create an outdoor mural with an interactive quality based on optical illusion. The mural will be located in a high-traffic area near the theatre, Pavilion, and green spaces around the Blue River, serving as a primary place for artistic expression and community gathering.
Artists must submit 1-3 color conceptual renderings of the proposed artwork and 1-3 relevant examples of work depicting their intended artistic style. The selection committee seeks work that is multi-cultural and diverse, welcoming, relaxed and natural, creative and progressive, playful and colorful, and adventurous and energized. Selection criteria include suitability of design for site, aesthetic quality, broad-based interest and appeal for all ages, and quality of the artist's previous works. Diversity in content is encouraged; art may be representational or abstract. Art may not contain advertising, logos, copyrighted images, or political, commercial, religious, or sexual themes. Designs should be picture-based rather than word-based, with any text incidental to the design. Artists may include their name, signature, website, hashtag, and the year (2019) in the design.
The selected artist will receive a $7,500 stipend as full compensation for design, creation, and installation. Payment will be made as a 50% deposit upon contract signing and 50% upon completion. The artist must use high-quality exterior paint that will withstand outdoor elements for a 3-year period, with sealants or anti-graffiti applications encouraged. The installation deadline is October 23, 2019. Entry fee is $10.00. Submit 2-6 images of work samples.
