About This Call
The MVA Gallery (Modern Visual Arts) invites artists, photographers, and sculptors of all levels to submit original artwork exploring the theme of opposites—opposing forces in nature and in life. Submissions may depict contrary states in single images, pairs, series, or groupings. Artists are encouraged to explore collage, assemblage, photomontage, mixed media, and other techniques that evoke personal or social narratives. All variations of representational or abstract, traditional or experimental art are welcome. Possible approaches include showing opposing scenes with modified details, black-and-white and color versions, realistic and distorted depictions, full and partial views, companion pieces with text, or blurred boundaries between reality and dreams.
Accepted mediums include painting, watercolor, printmaking, mixed media, digital, pastel, encaustic, ink, sculpture, fiber, drawing, and photography. Entry fee is $35.00 for 3 images, with additional images available for $5.00 each up to 9 maximum. All images must be submitted as JPEG files under 5 MB with a minimum of 1200 pixels on the longest side. Artwork must be professionally finished and ready for installation with stretched wire attached to the back. Maximum dimensions are 48 inches (framed) on the longest side and 45 lbs for paintings; sculptures should not exceed 28 inches on any dimension. Photographs should be framed with black or white frames preferred.
Notification of acceptance will be sent by email on or about October 14, 2025. Accepted artwork must arrive at the gallery no later than November 14, 2025. The exhibition runs November 20, 2025 through December 31, 2025. Awards include an "Art of Distinction" award featuring a special exhibition, an annual Grand Prize offering a New York City exhibition opportunity, and a Director's Choice Award of $200. Artists are responsible for all shipping and insurance costs both to and from the gallery. Unsold artwork will be returned January 7-12, 2026.
