About This Call

The Abstract Art Collective (AAC) is seeking submissions for Open to Abstraction, an exhibition at the Faulkner Main Gallery, 40 E. Anapamu Street, Santa Barbara. This call is for AAC members and can be accessed by invitation only. You must enter the password AAC in order to submit work. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Online submission dates are February 13 - March 4, 2020, 11:00 PM local time (PST). Artist notification is March 15, 2020. Exhibition dates are April 2 - 29, 2020. Physical ingathering is April 1st, 10:00 – 12:00 PM for online accepted work, with final curatorial decisions made at this time. Opening Reception is April 2nd (First Thursday) 5:00 - 7:00 PM. Takedown is April 30, noon - 3:00 PM.

Juried entries are limited to three pieces per artist. Entry fees are $15 for the first piece, $10 for the second piece, and $10 for the third piece. AAC membership dues must be current to participate. Prizes include 1st Place $100, 2nd Place $50, and 3rd Place $50. All prizes, including Honorable Mentions or Special Prize(s), will be announced at the Opening Reception on April 2nd. Jeremy Tessmer, Gallery Director and Curator of vintage American art at Sullivan Goss in Santa Barbara, is the juror.

Gallery sitting is required. Once final curatorial decisions have been confirmed, everyone with accepted work must sign up for gallery sitting—one shift per accepted entry. For 2D work: 42" width maximum, height flexible, artwork cannot protrude from wall more than 3.5 inches, must be wired for hanging and able to hang from a nail. For 3D work: wall sculpture weighing less than 30 lbs accepted, 36 inch maximum width, height flexible, all work must have appropriate hanging device, no wall sculpture may protrude more than 3.5 inches from wall. Paintings must be back-wired with standard multi-strand picture wire. Frames and artwork must be clean and dust-free, glass must be clean. No giclèe copies of original paintings—inkjet prints of work created digitally, hand-pulled prints and photography are accepted. No unframed lightweight canvases less than 1-3/8" in depth, no staples on exposed edges. No sawtooth hangers. No wet or tacky paint or topcoat. One item per artist of artwork labeled Not For Sale can be submitted. Sales of juried pieces will be conducted between artist and buyer, with the artist keeping 90% and sending 10% to the AAC in a check made out to the Squire Foundation.
