About This Call
Open Studios is a metro-wide event where artists invite the public into their studios. The goal is to increase the audience for artists' work and increase awareness of Kansas City's visual arts community. The event helps the community and visitors recognize Kansas City as an art destination, increases awareness of local artists, educates the public about the wide range of visual artists working in the community, and promotes local artists.
Participating artists open their studios from 11am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday of their designated weekend. Weekend #1 is November 3 & 4 for the Kansas City Downtown Corridor (Stateline to Troost, River to 55th Street and West Bottoms). Weekend #2 is November 10 & 11 for the Greater Metropolitan Area. Artists may extend their hours but must be open during the core 11am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday hours.
Entry requires a registration fee of $75.00 plus an image fee. Image fee options are: 1/3-page spread (1 image) for $75.00, 1-page spread (3 images) for $225.00, or 2-page spread (6 images) for $450.00. Artists must submit 1-6 images and provide an artist's statement (50 words for 1/3-page, 150 words for 1-page, or 300 words for 2-page spreads). Registration is online at www.CallForEntry.org. The entry deadline is May 22, 2008 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
Benefits include: your image and information in The Guide To Kansas City Artists (a full-color, 200+ page book); 25 Open Studios postcards for your mailing list; a special rate on color postcards; The Artists Coalition's extensive marketing campaign; free admission to planning workshops; one artwork included in the Open Studios Preview Exhibition at the Artists Coalition; and discounts on Open Studios ticketed events. Artists who do not have their own studio can contact The Artists Coalition about sharing a space or other alternatives.
