Open Orange 2017

Open Orange 2017 is a juried exhibition open to artists in the Tri-State area working in two-dimensional media. The exhibition will be held at the ValleyArts Community Gallery located at 400 S. Jefferson Street in Orange, NJ.

Artists 18 years and older may submit 1, 2, or 3 works maximum. All 2D original artwork will be considered, including painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, printmaking, and other works on canvas, paper, and board. Artwork size should not exceed 36 inches by 36 inches. The entry fee is $35 (non-refundable). Jury selection is based on the artist's whole submission. The nationally prominent jurors are Diedre Harris-Kelley (co-director of the Romare Beardon Foundation), Nigel Freeman (director of the African-American Fine Art department at Swann Auction Galleries and print appraiser for PBS's Antiques Roadshow), and Caro Kalb-Marr (gallery owner, curator, and art collector).

Artist notification will be Friday, April 21, 2017. Artwork drop-off is Friday, May 5, 2017 (3pm-7pm) or Saturday, May 6, 2017 (12pm-4pm). Accepted works must be hand-delivered and unpacked at the gallery; mailing is not permitted. Framing must be professional standard and ready for hanging with attached wire. The exhibition runs Thursday, May 11 through Sunday, June 11, 2017. A reception and Best in Show announcement will be held Thursday, May 11, 2017 (6pm-9pm), with an artist talk on Saturday, June 10, 2017 (3pm-5pm) and closing reception (5pm-7pm). All accepted artwork must remain on display for the entire exhibition duration and be priced for sale. The ValleyArts Community Gallery will collect a 30% commission on all sales. A $400 Best in Show award will be given to one selected artist. Artist pick-up is Monday, June 12 or Tuesday, June 13, 2017 (3pm-7pm).
