About This Call
Open Orange 2016 is a juried exhibition organized by ValleyArts, the art community organization of the Valley Arts District of Orange and West Orange, NJ. The exhibition is open to New Jersey artists and NYC metropolitan area artists working in two-dimensional media and will be held at the ValleyArts Firehouse Gallery, located at 580 Forest Street in Orange, NJ.
Artists 18 years and over may submit one, two, or three works maximum. All original artwork in 2D media will be considered, including painting, photography, printmaking, mixed media, and works on paper. Maximum dimensions are 36 x 36 inches including frame. The entry fee is $35 per application, non-refundable. Jury selection is based on the entire artist application. The nationally prominent jurors are Tricia Bloom (curator of American art at the Newark Museum), Diedre Harris-Kelley (co-director of the Romare Beardon Foundation), and Marie Samuels (executive president of Artadia).
Artist notification is April 17, 2016. Artwork drop-off is May 6 (3pm-7pm) or May 9 (12pm-4pm). The exhibition runs May 12 – June 12, 2016, with a reception and Best in Show announcement on May 12 at 6pm-9pm. An artist talk is scheduled for June 11 at 3pm-5pm, followed by a closing reception at 5pm-7pm. Artwork pick-up is June 13 or 14 (3pm-7pm). Accepted works must be hand-delivered and unpacked at the gallery; mailing is not permitted. Framing must be professional standard and ready for hanging with attached wire. All accepted artwork must remain on display for the entire exhibition duration and be priced for sale. The gallery collects a 30% commission on sales, with proceeds disbursed to artists within 30 days of the close of exhibition. A $400 Best in Show award will be given to one selected artist.
