Open Orange

Open Orange is an inaugural juried exhibition presented by ValleyArts of Orange and West Orange, NJ. The exhibition is open to New Jersey artists and New York metropolitan area artists working in two-dimensional media. The contemporary art exhibition will be held in the new ValleyArts Firehouse Gallery and nearby spaces in the Valley Arts District.

Artists may submit up to three original artworks in 2D media including painting, photography, printmaking, mixed media, and works on paper. Maximum dimensions are 36x36 inches including frame. The entry fee is $35 per application. Nationally prominent jurors include Antonio Sergio Bessa (director of curatorial and educational programs, Bronx Museum), Deidre Harris-Kelly (co-director of the Romare Bearden Foundation), and Naima J. Keith (assistant curator, the Studio Museum in Harlem).

Application deadline is March 16 at midnight MST/2:00 AM EST. Artist notification is April 3. Accepted works must be hand-delivered to the Firehouse Gallery, 580 Forest Street, Orange, NJ 07050 on April 25-26 or April 27, 10-4 pm. Mailing artwork is not permitted. The exhibition runs May 9 - June 8, with a reception and awards on May 9. Artwork pickup is June 13-14, 10-4 pm. All accepted artwork must remain on display for the entire exhibition duration and be priced for sale. The gallery collects a 40% commission on sales, with proceeds disbursed to artists within 30 days of the exhibition close. The Best in Show award is a one-person exhibition at the Firehouse Gallery in the 2014-15 season. Additional awards and cash prizes by category/medium will be announced.
