About This Call
The Lee Gallery at Clemson University is seeking exhibition proposals for solo, group, or curated exhibitions for the 2016-2017 academic year and beyond. The gallery aims to showcase professional emerging or established artists creating innovative work in all types of media addressing contemporary issues. Successful proposals will demonstrate quality work that raises thoughtful questions accessible to a broad range of programs and audiences.
The gallery is a 2,000 sq/ft space with a maximum of 150 linear feet of wall space. Exhibits typically run 5-7 weeks and include an exhibit reception. The gallery programs gallery talks, student engagement activities, and workshops when possible. Lee Gallery advertises exhibits through the Center for Visual Arts, College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities websites, social media, university communication systems, alumni networks, university and community calendars, monthly email broadcasts, and printed exhibit cards.
Eligibility: USA residents and artists 18 years or older may apply. All work must be original and all media is eligible. Clemson University employees and students currently enrolled in MFA or BFA programs are ineligible. Submissions must include 8-20 images of current work, an artist statement or curatorial statement, a list of participating artists for group or curated exhibits, a resume, and a budget if requesting support. The gallery will provide $500-$1,500 to support artist visits for installations and presentations. Artists are responsible for delivery of works, installation details, and any materials or equipment required beyond standard electricity. Lee Gallery assumes responsibility for insuring and caring for selected works. All proposals will be reviewed and artists will be notified by January 15, 2016 for exhibitions being mounted August 2016 or beyond. Entry fee: $30. Maximum 20 applications allowed.
