About This Call
Onizuka Crossing is seeking proposals to create a mural on a prominent communal area (the community room) on the first floor of the building located at 620 E. Maude Avenue in Sunnyvale. The wall is 18 feet in length and 10 feet in height and will be highly visible to pedestrian traffic along E. Maude Avenue. The project seeks artwork that is meaningful in the context of its time and place and resonates with the members of the Onizuka Crossing community. A variety of mediums and techniques are welcome provided that the artwork is durable and vandal resistant.
The artist must direct resident participation in the artwork in cooperation with MidPen Housing Corporation staff. While creative ideas for resident involvement are encouraged (such as residents painting a small portion), the majority of the work must be created by the artist. The total budget range for this artwork is approximately $15,000 including installation. Artists must submit brief descriptions of current work, photos of completed projects of similar scope with detailed information (location, medium/materials, client, timeline, budget), a proposed schedule, and an itemized budget. Submission deadline is November 20, 2016. Selected artists will be interviewed December 5-15, 2016, with the earliest notice to proceed on January 2, 2017. Mural completion is targeted for February/March 2017. Work samples should include a minimum of 3 and maximum of 6 images. Eligibility is regional (California).
