About This Call
One Gun Gone: Thoughts and Prayers are Not Enough is a juried international photography exhibition addressing the impact of gun violence, produced by Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts in partnership with One Gun Gone, a multi-disciplinary gun violence prevention public art project. The exhibition is open to any photo-based media. Entered photographs should address or relate to gun violence, including work from existing series or images reflecting how gun violence affects your community or the world at large. Profits from this call will fund One Gun Gone's gun buy-back program.
Photographers of all levels who are at least 18 years old are invited to enter. Artists may submit up to 10 photographs. The entry fee is $45 for the first three images and $10 for each subsequent image. Current RIPhotoArts Members receive a 20% discount on all entry fees. Work must be your original creation and exhibition ready, with a maximum size of 48 inches including the frame. All forms of photographic image-making in any process or technology are welcome.
The exhibition runs October 18 through November 9, 2018, with a reception and awards ceremony on October 18 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. Juror Boris Bally is a nationally recognized artist and sculptor whose work addresses gun violence in America. Awards total $1,000: First Place $500, Second Place $250, Third Place $150, and People's Choice $100. Winners may alternatively donate their prize to fund the removal of guns from the street. Notification of acceptance will be sent by email on or before September 13, 2018. In-person delivery of accepted work is Saturday, October 13, noon-5:30 p.m., or work may be shipped to arrive by Monday, October 15. RIPhotoArts retains a 40% commission on works sold (20% for members). Contact [email protected] for questions.
