About This Call

The One Columbia Public Art Roster is a curated list that serves as a resource for One Columbia public art selection committees and as a reference for external organizations and private entities. The Roster may be used in combination with an open call or invitational or as the sole resource for identifying appropriate artists/teams for a project when the project requirements make it useful, such as an expedited selection process, need for a specific skillset, or a curated opportunity. This application process is used to add new artists and teams to the pre-qualified list. Every year, a call is held to select artists for the Public Artist Roster. A panel made up of artists and arts professionals reviews each application, considering each applicant's portfolio, interest in working with One Columbia, and community engagement experience. There is no application fee.

Eligible applicants must be professional visual artists or artist teams (up to five members), US citizens or authorized to work in the United States, and create public art or artwork suited for public spaces. Applicants cannot be students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate visual arts courses at the time of application. Work should fall into one or more categories: Public Art, Creative Placemaking/Placekeeping Practice, Media Arts, Murals, or Integrated/Infrastructure.

If accepted to the roster, applicants must be willing to design and propose artworks, travel to project sites, work within fixed budgets, maintain vendor registration with One Columbia and potentially the City of Columbia and Richland County, and enter into contracts with One Columbia. Applicants must adhere to relevant City and State permitting and licensing requirements, including those relating to sub-contracting and prevailing wages, and fulfill contract requirements including applicable taxes and insurance.

Applications require at least three images of artworks (up to three videos also permitted), artwork information for each image (title, date, dimensions, medium, commissioning agency, location, and brief description), an artist statement, a letter of interest, and current contact information. Images must be JPG or PNG format, 1200 pixels on longest side, 72 dpi minimum, and under 1.5 MB file size.
