ON THE STREETS -- THE URBAN EXPERIENCE

The MVA Gallery (Modern Visual Arts) invites artists and photographers of all levels to submit original artwork exploring streets and urban scenes. This national call seeks pictorial records and interpretations of city content including buildings, streets, signs, people, objects, machines, technology, space, light, and movement. Artists are encouraged to explore how they narrate their experiences of cities, towns, or suburbs—whether capturing decisive moments, asserting the significance of place, focusing on storytelling, examining oddities, reflecting social and economic issues, or revealing normality and joyful moments. The gallery supports all efforts and approaches to this subject matter, with no restrictions on style and technique.

Accepted mediums include painting, watercolor, printmaking, mixed media, digital, pastel, encaustic, sculpture, fiber, drawing, and photography. Photographers may submit black-and-white or color images using any photographic process. Entry fee is $35.00 for 3 images, with additional images available for $5.00 each up to 9 maximum. All images must be submitted as JPEG files under 5 MB with a minimum of 1200 pixels on the longest side. Submissions must include title, medium, size, price, and year of completion.

Artwork must be professionally finished and ready for secure installation with stretched wire attached to the back. Pieces should not exceed 48 inches (framed) on the longest side or weigh more than 45 lbs. Photographs should be framed with black or white frames preferred; mats should be white or off-white only. The exhibition runs February 22 through March 19, 2023. Awards include First Prize $450, Second Prize $250, and Third Prize $100. One artist selected from all accepted works during the calendar year will receive an exhibition opportunity in New York City. Entry deadline is January 24, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Artist notification will be sent by January 28, 2023. Accepted artwork must arrive by February 17, 2023. Artists are responsible for all shipping and insurance costs both to and from the gallery.
