About This Call
On The Eve Of is a collaborative exhibition curated by S.C.R.A.P. Gallery and CV Art Projects that explores and celebrates the impact of eight global female environmentalists. The exhibition invites students, teachers, parents, and professional artists to create their own interpretive portrait of one of the highlighted environmentalists or another female environmentalist of their choosing.
The highlighted environmentalists are: Rachel Carson (American marine biologist and author whose book Silent Spring exposed the dangers of pesticides), Jane Goodall (British ethologist and primatologist who studied chimpanzees in Tanzania's Gombe Stream National Park), Greta Thunberg (Swedish environmental activist), Isatou Ceesay (Gambian activist known as the Queen of Recycling who initiated the One Plastic Bag recycling movement), Wangari Maathai (Kenyan environmental activist and founder of the Green Belt Movement), Berta Cáceres (Honduran activist and indigenous leader), Marina Silva (Brazilian politician and environmentalist serving as Minister of the Environment and Climate Change), and Vandana Shiva (Indian scholar and environmental activist).
Selected portraits will be featured in a traveling art show that kicks off at S.C.R.A.P. Gallery in Cathedral City in April 2026. The application deadline is March 16, 2026. Contact [email protected] for more information.
