On Edge 2016

ON EDGE is an annual juried exhibition of contemporary work by Colorado artists. EDGE Gallery has exhibited groundbreaking contemporary art for 30 years and has been instrumental in presenting important experimental work in the region. All artists residing in Colorado are invited to submit their work.

This show is open to contemporary art of any medium, with an emphasis on work that challenges the margins of material, content, artistic process, and technology. The merits and definition of "contemporary" will be defined by the juror. Dean Sobel will jury the 2016 show. As Director of the Clyfford Still Museum, Sobel spearheaded efforts to create a permanent home for the Clyfford Still Estate, encompassing approximately 3,000 works of art bequeathed to the City of Denver in 2004. From 2000–2005, Sobel was Director of the Aspen Art Museum. During his tenure, he led the institution through its accreditation process and developed museum goals and programs for its 25th-anniversary, including site-specific installations presented around Aspen. From 1995–2000, Sobel was Chief Curator at the Milwaukee Art Museum, where he held the joint position of Curator of Contemporary Art.

Entry fee is $35.00. Artists may submit up to 3 total work samples, which can include images, audio, or video files (minimum 1 sample required). The Juror's Choice Award of $200 will be selected for quality, content, and process, and announced at the Opening Reception. Important dates: January 4 - submission deadline; January 22 - artists notified; January 29-31 - drop off dates; February 5 - opening reception; February 5-28 - show dates; February 28-29 - pick up dates.
