About This Call

The Coppell Arts Council invites artists from Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Louisiana, and Mississippi (18 years or older) to submit sculptures for the Old Town Art Stroll. Up to 12 professional sculptures will be selected through a juried process. Sculptures must be appropriate for public viewing, support family and community-oriented values, be safe for public settings, and be made of materials that can withstand harsh Texas weather without requiring maintenance. Large, monumental sculptures are encouraged. The honorarium is $1,800, with an additional $500 awarded to the People's Choice selection.

Sculptures are owned by the artist and loaned to the exhibit for a two-year period. Artists must provide all fasteners and hardware to attach artwork to concrete pads (8" thick, 4' x 4' square). The City of Coppell will provide a lift and labor to assist with placement and installation. Any additional installation equipment beyond a forklift must be supplied by the artist. Artists may list work as for sale during exhibition; the Coppell Arts Council receives a 20% commission on sales. During exhibition, artwork is covered by the City of Coppell's insurance policy. The artist is responsible for delivery during April 30 - May 15, 2021, and pickup during April 15 - May 15, 2023. Early pickup is not permitted unless a sculpture is sold.

Submissions are evaluated on artistic merit, public safety, appropriateness, durability outdoors, and creativity. Artists working in mixed media, stone, brass, and metal are encouraged to apply, as are those working in abstract and figurative styles. Each artist may submit up to 3 pieces; one image per submission is required. The Coppell Arts Council will host an evening art stroll in September 2021, and all participating artists are encouraged to attend and will receive two VIP tickets. Artists will also be interviewed for a public art app produced by Ottocast.
