About This Call

The Town of Windsor, in partnership with the Public Art Advisory Committee (PAAC), is soliciting public art entries for two temporary outdoor installations (up to 24 months) in new traffic roundabouts on Old Redwood Highway. The roundabouts are located 1500 feet apart and adjacent to Bell Village shopping center and Vintage Oaks on the Town Green residential development, near the Sonoma County Library, Town Civic Center, and Windsor Town Green park plaza.

The theme is "Art is Energizing the Community" and should incorporate energy production from natural elements such as wind, solar, and kinetic mediums. Each roundabout features a concrete base foundation 20 feet in diameter and 6 inches deep. Artists may submit up to three designs for each of the two locations (six designs total). Each submission must include up to six images and one video (60 seconds or less) showing front and back viewpoints and installation requirements. Original art must be pre-existing and ready to loan by the installation timeline. The sculpture must be substantially fabricated and sufficiently safe to withstand local weather and outdoor conditions. The selected artist is responsible for all transportation, delivery, and removal costs. The Town will cover placement and installation costs with artist oversight.

Selected artists will receive a $2,500 stipend after installation. Temporary plaques with art details will be included. The displayed art may be purchased; if sold, the Town retains 20% commission for future public art. Sculptures may also be purchased by donors and donated to the Town for permanent relocation within town limits. The installation timeline is January 2016, with art displayed January 2016 through July 2017. Entry deadline: September 24, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. International eligibility.
