About This Call

The O'Hare Modernization Program is seeking qualifications from professional artists and teams worldwide for seven public art commissions at a new Joint-Use Consolidated Rental Car/Parking Facility and ATS Station at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago. The facility will be approximately 500,000 square feet per floor with over 3 million gross square feet total, located on a 33-acre site on the east side of Mannheim Road and north of Zemke Boulevard. With an estimated 1.5 million visitors per month, this represents a significant opportunity to display artwork to international travelers.

Three project types are available: Project 1 (2-Dimension, 3 locations) focuses on interior façade enhancements and large-scale wall installations including murals and glazing enhancements; Project 2 (3-Dimension, 2 locations) features exterior interactive opportunities for three-dimensional abstract forms that are sustainable and weather-durable; Project 3 (Technology, 2 locations) involves interior digital and/or light-based installations including LED artwork. All types of medium are allowed (2D, 3D, digital, light-based).

Qualification submissions are due June 10, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. MDT via callforentry.org and must include: a letter of interest (1000 character limit), 5-10 images of past work, resume or curriculum vitae (maximum 3 pages, .pdf format), proof of public art history through .pdf or .doc document, and support materials demonstrating professional recognition such as exhibition catalogs, reviews, and awards. Application is open to all professional artists worldwide; PhD, undergraduate, and graduate students are not eligible. The Internal Review Committee will narrow the field and recommend 21 potential individual artists/teams to advance to the RFP design-concept competition phase, with approximately 3 artists/teams per site. All advanced teams will receive a stipend, be required to conduct an initial site visit, and be interviewed by the selection committee. Budget and timeline information will be provided during the RFP phase.
