Oh, Mother

Oh, Mother is an open call for art examining the concept of motherhood in all its dimensions. The word MOTHER—as both verb and noun—is rich and timeless, yet complex and often controversial when gendered. Hera Gallery invites artists to explore what motherhood means to them: as a child of a mother, as a witness to motherhood, as a mother or person who mothers, or as a human being connected to Mother Earth. The gallery seeks works that examine, unravel, deconstruct, and rewrite the myths of motherhood, and strongly encourages entries from all genders.

The exhibition will be juried by Nadiah Rivera Fellah, associate curator at the Cleveland Museum of Art with a specialty in Latin American and global contemporary art. She has curated exhibitions including "New Histories, New Futures" (2021), Firelei Báez for FRONT International (2022), and "Picturing Motherhood Now" (2021).

Hera Gallery seeks work in all media: 2D, 3D, and video. 3D work is limited to 100 lbs and must fit through a 5'10" x 6'8" door; 2D work must also fit through this door. Entry fee is $35. Accepted artists will be notified by April 10, 2023. The exhibition runs May 13–June 17, 2023. Artwork must be delivered to the gallery by May 5, 2023. Artists are responsible for all shipping costs and return shipping. Hera Gallery retains a 40% sales commission. Artists are responsible for their own insurance. The gallery reserves the right to photograph work for publicity and use artist names, likenesses, and artwork in exhibition materials.
