About This Call

The Utah Division of Facilities Construction and Management and the Utah Division of Arts & Museums Public Art Program in partnership with Ogden-Weber Technical College seeks qualifications from Utah-based artists and/or artist teams with ties to Utah interested in creating site-specific artwork(s) for the Ogden-Weber Technical College Pathway Building.

The Pathway Building will serve as a new front door to the college, featuring two spacious courtyard plazas on the East and West sides with opportunities for student gathering and reflection. The building's design is inspired by stepping stones connected by a central atrium pathway. The committee seeks pieces that embody belonging, optimism, and potential, reflecting the rich cultural identities and life experiences of the community. Functional and environmental artwork is especially encouraged—pieces that invite movement, offer rest, support wellness, and harmonize with the natural landscape. Potential elements could include sculptural seating, creative signage, shade structures, or installations that interact with light, weather, or changing seasons. Ideas incorporating the adjacent canal, such as a canal pathway bridge or water-inspired designs, are welcome. The artwork must be appropriate for public exhibition and cannot contain advertising, religious references, sexual or violent content, or convey political partisanship.

A budget of $164,000 is available for all related expenses including artist fees, fabrication, support structures, insurance, shipping, travel, lighting, installation, and documentation. Professional artists and artist teams residing in Utah or with ties to Utah are eligible; artists living in Weber County will receive additional weight in review. Applicants must have a U.S. Tax ID Number. Submissions must include up to 10 images and/or up to two video files of previous work, a CV or resume, and a Statement of Interest. The application deadline is June 30, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Semi-finalists will present full proposals on September 24, 2025, and will receive an honorarium applied toward the final commission amount. Artwork completion is targeted for Fall 2027 with project substantial completion in January 2028.
