About This Call
Ogden City, in collaboration with Visit Ogden, the MarketStar Foundation, and MarketStar, seeks a vibrant mural to celebrate Utah's upcoming 2034 Winter Olympic Games. Located on Kiesel Avenue, the mural will connect Ogden's dynamic Junction District and iconic Historic 25th Street. The artwork will symbolize local pride, celebrate Olympic spirit, showcase Utah's stunning natural landscapes, and highlight Weber County's cultural history. The selected artist(s) will design, fabricate, and install permanent artwork to the exterior of a parking structure along Kiesel Avenue on the west side serving patrons of Ogden Eccles Conference Center, Peery's Egyptian Theater, and MarketStar. The mural measures 436 feet long and 35 feet tall, totaling 15,260 square feet.
The selected artist or artist team will be asked to collaborate with the chosen artist(s) for Ogden City's open Kiesel Ave Cable Project artist call. The art from that project will be installed on a cable system attached directly to the parking garage wall where the Olympic mural will be placed. The two installations must be complementary to each other. The artwork is intended to capture the excitement, anticipation, and global spirit of the Games while honoring Utah's Olympic legacy and the region's connection to winter recreation. This call does not request direct use of Olympic trademarks, logos, or protected imagery; emphasis should be on interpretive, thematic inspiration rather than official licensed or trademarked branding.
The selection committee is open to reviewing qualifications from artists producing mural-type artwork of any durable, low-maintenance media, including painted murals, reliefs, mosaic, and sculptural applications. Materials must be suitable for outdoor display. Work sample requirements: minimum 1 image, maximum 10 images; 0-6 audio files; 0-6 video files; total of 10 samples required. Total project budget is $110,000. Entry deadline: March 20, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Eligibility is national.
