O'Fallon Main Street Roundabout Sculpture Project

The City of O'Fallon, Missouri, seeks a sculpture for the intersection of Main Street and Third Street that will honor the rich history of the City. The intersection is the heart of O'Fallon's history, featuring the Sisters of the Most Precious Blood's convent and chapel complex, which now houses a senior living facility and the O'Fallon Municipal Centre (City Hall). The area also includes a park-like space with a prayer walk and grotto, and is near Assumption Parish and School, which was started by the Sisters.

Submitted sculptures must weigh no more than 10,000 lbs and be created of stone, stainless steel, or bronze. Works cannot exceed 15 feet in height and must fit within a concrete pad (size to be determined collaboratively with the City). Sculptures must be suitable for long-term outdoor display, capable of withstanding pedestrian contact, adverse weather conditions, high winds, rain, extreme summer heat, snow, and freezing conditions. Works must be safe for the public, including children, with no sharp edges, climbing hazards, or breakable or bendable components. Sculptures must be able to withstand brief periods of water around the base and pass city inspection for safety requirements. Ground-mounted works only; artists must provide hardware and secure anchoring to the concrete pad with bolts.

Artists are responsible for providing special installation instructions, detailed anchoring information, and a detailed sculpture description. Selected artists must deliver the sculpture on predetermined dates and times, with the artist or representative present during installation. Artists must provide marketing information as requested and transport the artwork to the site. Most sites will not have available electricity; if electricity is requested, please note this in the application. Artists are invited to attend an opening reception event at the start of the exhibition.
