Of An Era International Juried Art Exhibition

Of An Era International Juried Art Exhibition invites artists to submit works that engage with ideas around nostalgia and generational identity. The notion of a "bygone era" can evoke feelings of nostalgia and memories, both real and imagined. How can artwork express that relationship to the past? At the same time, how might artistic productions reflect the spirit of a "generation" (Greatest Generation, Baby Boomer, Gen X, Millennial, Gen Y, Gen Z, etc.)? Artists are invited to engage with one or both of the theme's concepts. The exhibition welcomes a diverse array of media, including ceramics, digital media, film, graphic art, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, textiles, and video.

The exhibition will be held November 5 through December 9, 2021 at The Trolley Barn Gallery, 489 Main St., Poughkeepsie, New York, with an Opening Reception on Friday, November 5, 5-7pm. The juror is Jova Lynne, Susanne Feld Hilberry, Senior Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, working in collaboration with youth from The Art Effect. Artwork selection is part of The Art Effect's youth curatorial program. Selected artworks will be shown in the Trolley Barn Gallery as well as an interactive online exhibition. Artists will be notified approximately two weeks after the deadline.

Entry fee is $35 for the first three images plus $5 for each additional image (15 images maximum, including up to 3 video submissions). Discounted rates available for Art Effect & Barrett Art Center Members ($30), City of Poughkeepsie residents with zip code 12601 ($30), and current Art Effect students ($20). Artwork specifications: maximum 7 feet in any direction with no minimum; 2D artwork should not exceed 65 pounds. Artwork must be exhibition ready. Artists are responsible for transportation to and from the gallery and must provide return shipping labels. Artwork pickup is December 10-11, with return shipping required within 14 days. Prizes: $500 First Prize, $250 Second Prize, $150 Honorable Mention. Exhibiting artists may specify a retail price for work available for purchase; The Art Effect retains a 20% commission for members and students, 30% for non-members.
