About This Call
October National 2019 is a national juried competition open to all artists 18 years old and over. Entries must be original design with no giclee or other mechanical reproductions. Work must be executed within the last two years.
All media are accepted. Wall-hung or 2D artwork must be framed or gallery wrapped, wired, ready to hang, and not exceed 60 inches wide or 96 inches high. 3D artwork must be self-standing or fit on a 36x36 inch pedestal. All artwork must be able to be handled by one person, and no work can be suspended from the ceiling. Any accessories needed for display must be included. The gallery reserves the right to install accepted works as deemed necessary for exhibition and/or security reasons.
Entry fee is $30 for up to 3 pieces. Artwork is juried by photographs or jpeg/pdf files. Submit 2 images per piece, which may include a second angle or detail. Artwork does not need to be for sale, though a 50% commission will be taken on work sold. Accepted work is due at Illinois Art Gallery by September 28, 2019. The opening reception is October 4 at Madden Arts Center, Anne Lloyd Gallery, with the exhibit closing October 30. Hand-delivered work pick-up is November 1 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at IL Art Gallery, 160 E. Main St., Decatur, IL 62523. Shipped work will be returned by November 14.
Judge: Sarah Smelser, MA and MFA from University of Iowa, Professor and Associate Director of the School of Art at Illinois State University, and co-founder of Manneken Press. Awards: $500 Best of Show, $300 Breast Cancer Awareness Award, $300 1st Place in 2D, $200 2nd Place in 2D, $100 3rd Place in 2D, $300 1st Place in 3D, $200 2nd Place in 3D, $100 3rd Place in 3D.
