About This Call
The National Watercolor Society invites artists to submit work for the 99th International Open Exhibition, running October 3–November 17, 2019. The entry deadline is May 13, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Entry fee is $60 for non-members and $40 for members. Artists must submit one original water-based painting completed within the last two years. Work must be primarily water-based media on a 2D water media surface; other media may be used only in conjunction with water media as the dominant medium. Digital media, photography, prints, and reproductions are not permitted. Artwork image size must be between 5" x 7" minimum and 30" maximum in the longest dimension. Artists must be 18 years or older, and work previously exhibited in any National or International Open Exhibition or NWS Members Exhibition is ineligible.
Framing options include professional framing and matting through Bartwood's Art Department (fee $150–$175 depending on size) or artist-provided framing following NWS requirements. If self-framing, frames must be plain wooden frames no wider than 1.5" (silver wooden frames preferred, no metal frames), with minimum size 9" x 11" and maximum 40" x 40". All work must be under plexiglass or sealed by the artist; no glass is permitted. Mats must be white with no colored liners or linen mats.
Accepted artists will be notified June 10, with artwork to be shipped by July 12. The opening reception is October 19, 2–6 p.m. Awards total $45,000 in cash and merchandise. All work must be for sale with no price changes after acceptance. NWS retains a 30% commission on sales. Jurors of Selection include Jean Grastorf (Chair), Elaine Daily-Birnbaum, and Frank Eber. Judge of Awards is Brian Rutenberg. For general questions, contact Penny Hill, NWS Director-Exhibitions, at [email protected].
