About This Call

Peters Valley School of Craft invites submissions for Nuance: Craftsmanship, Imagination and Innovation, an exhibition showcasing works that represent the merger of hands and technology in contemporary craft. This call seeks dynamic examples of how artists are utilizing technology to design and fabricate components or facets of handmade work, demonstrating how human nuance can be augmented through innovative applications of technology.

The exhibition will be held in spring 2019 at Peters Valley School of Craft's Sally D. Francisco Gallery in New Jersey. Peters Valley is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization established in 1970 in partnership with the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Work is open to 2- and 3-dimensional pieces including painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, collage, paper, encaustic, ceramic, wood, metal, jewelry, glass, textiles, fiber art, mixed media, functional or sculptural work. Work must be original and created by the applicant. Open to emerging and established artists residing and working in the United States.

Entry fee is $25 for two entries, with additional entries at $10 each. Applicants must submit 2-5 images. Notification of acceptance will be sent via email on March 12, 2019. Work is due April 1, 2019. The exhibition opens April 13, 2019 with a reception from 5pm-7pm and closes May 19, 2019. Peters Valley provides insurance coverage for the wholesale value of objects up to $5,000 while in their possession. A 50% commission on the retail selling price is retained by Peters Valley. Work does not need to be for sale. Jurors are Maegen Black, Director of the Canadian Crafts Federation, and Sin-ying Ho, Ceramist and Assistant Professor at Queens College, City University of New York.
