About This Call
The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America - Ohio (NSCDA-OH) is seeking qualified artists for a memorial honoring women veterans in Eden Park, Cincinnati. As part of America250, this project will replace a weathered 1985 foot marker plaque with a memorial that recognizes women veterans throughout America's 250-year history and reflects a comparable standard to the adjacent Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The project unveiling is anticipated for November 11, 2026, at the annual Veterans Day Observance event.
The memorial will be located at Eden Park (986 St. Paul Drive, Cincinnati, Ohio 45206) with an opportunity footprint of approximately 7' round and not to exceed 7' tall. The successful design should be representative of the many roles held by women in military service, welcoming, inclusive, intriguing, engaging to multi-generational audiences, permanent, durable, and easy to maintain. The design must not impede surrounding sidewalks, invite climbing, encourage physical interaction, or require electricity.
A design fee of $1,000 will be paid to each selected semi-finalist artist for project proposal submission. The fabrication budget is not to exceed $100,000. Artists must have proven experience with public memorial and 3-dimensional design development. Applications require a résumé/CV, 3-8 relevant images of completed artworks from the last ten years with reference sheet, and a 1-page letter of interest. Semi-finalists will be selected in early February 2026, with proposals due March 15, 2026, and the finalist selected by March 31, 2026.
