Now or Neverland: Ode to Hip-Hop Art Festival | Art Basel WKND

Now or Neverland: Ode to Hip-Hop is the third annual art festival hosted by MUCE during Art Basel weekend. The exhibition celebrates 45 years of hip hop culture through visual art. Artists are encouraged to explore the five elements of hip hop—MCing, DJing, BBoy (Breaking), Graffiti, and Knowledge—and submit work that reflects hip hop's influence in fashion, music, dance, culture, politics, and trends. The exhibit is open to both honor and critique of the genre. Themes include the musical and political foundations of hip hop such as jazz, R&B, soul, sampling, socioeconomics disparities, and urban living.

The outdoor art fair is hosted in a 50 x 50 gallery tent featuring local, national, and international visual artists. The fair includes opening and closing receptions, live performances, fashion, artist talks, youth engagement, and merchandising space. Exhibition dates are December 6-10, 2017, with the opening reception on Wednesday, December 6. All work must be delivered November 13-17, 2017, and picked up no later than December 20, 2017. Work not picked up after that date will be assessed a storage fee of $3 per day per piece.

Submission fee is $75 (non-refundable). If accepted, there is a $10 non-refundable installation/hanging fee per work. All exhibited work and merchandise sold during the exhibition is subject to a 30% commission fee. Artists must submit 2-20 images and are responsible for shipping costs both to and from the exhibition. Work must be installation-ready with appropriate hanging hardware and clearly labeled. There is no size limit. Work in progress is accepted if accompanied by concept description, sketches, images of previous work, intended size, cost, and medium; final images must be submitted by October 1, 2017. By submitting, artists grant MUCE the right to use submitted media and images for marketing and advertisement purposes.
