About This Call

An exhibition of contemporary quilting at the Kavanagh Gallery of Fine Line Creative Arts Center in St. Charles, Illinois. Today's quilts, quilted clothing and objects have evolved to include a wide range of functional, decorative and artistic styles. Whether experimenting with creating or dyeing fabrics, incorporating experimental materials, or conceptually challenging the ideas of quilting, today's quilts are not the ones we remember from childhood. This show will celebrate contemporary quilting in all of its forms.

Artists are invited to submit original artwork completed in the last three years. The show is open to artists 18 years and older residing in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, or Wisconsin. Up to 3 pieces may be submitted with one image per piece. All work must be for sale. The entry fee is $35.00. Jury decisions will be based on creativity, quality of artistry, and originality. Artists will be notified of jury decisions on or before September 8, 2023. The show runs from October 12 - November 15, 2023, with an in-person opening reception on October 12 from 6-8 pm.

Fine Line will handle all sales, sales tax, and provide artists with payment after the show ends. A 30% sales commission will be charged for any artwork sold. Artists have the option to also put their work for sale on the Fine Line website during the show, with Fine Line handling all taxes and shipping costs for online sales. For quilts, artwork will be hung using sleeves and slats; artists must provide 3-inch sleeves and their own slats. Fine Line provides security with 24/7 video monitoring and insurance coverage from receipt of work until the show's end (valued at 70% of sale price). Artists are responsible for shipping artwork to and from Fine Line and must include a return shipping label. $800 in prizes will be awarded.
