Not Heavy

Pacific Rim Sculptors invites current members to submit work for the exhibition "Not Heavy," an exploration of lightness in every sense of the word. The call seeks submissions of sculpture that either does not weigh much or art that is light-hearted in subject matter.

Physically, "Not Heavy" may refer to works that are literally lightweight: airy constructions, suspended forms, delicate materials, or pieces that create the illusion of lightness despite their scale. Conceptually, the theme invites a break from the solemn or burdensome, instead embracing work that is playful, warm, whimsical, uplifting, or humorous. The show will celebrate sculpture that uplifts the spirit or defies gravity in form or feeling.

Artists may submit up to 4 artworks. Work must be original, ready to display, and meet size specifications. Art must fit through a door 32" wide and 82" high and be deliverable upstairs via staircase with a landing halfway (80" x 45"). Art may be wall-mounted, free standing, or hang from the ceiling. Accepted artwork must be the actual artwork as seen in submitted images; no substitutions are permitted. Artists may provide a statement but it is not required. Exhibition dates: November 13, 2025 - January 3, 2026. Opening reception: Saturday, November 15th, 1-4 pm. Art delivery: November 2025 (specific date TBD). Art pickup: Sunday, January 4th, 2026. Location: Transmission Gallery, 770 West Grand Ave, Oakland, CA 94612. Transmission Gallery will retain a 50% commission of sold artwork; the artist's 50% commission will be mailed within 30 days after the close of the show. Eligibility: Open to current Pacific Rim Sculptors members who are up to date with dues (Regular, Student, or Family level). Applications due October 5th, 2025 by 11:59 pm MDT.
