Nostalgia

DISTRICT Arts, a contemporary art gallery located in the historic district of downtown Frederick, MD, presents "Nostalgia," an independently juried themed exhibition featuring the work of 25 artists.

Nostalgia can mean a tenderhearted longing for the past, usually accompanied with happy remembrances of times gone by. It can also mean a longing accompanied with a sense of loss or missed opportunity. Artists are invited to explore their creative interpretation of nostalgia through original works created within the past three years. A maximum of 3 pieces may be submitted for jurying, with only the highest scoring work included in the exhibition if accepted. Entry fees are $25 for one entry, $30 for two entries, and $35 for three entries. Awards include Best in Show ($500), Award of Merit ($250), and Honorable Mention ($100). The juror is Twig Murray, president of the board of the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Association and Gallery Director at the Athenaeum Gallery.

2D works may not exceed 60 inches in width or height, including frame, and must be ready to hang with wire. 3D works must fit a 12" square or 12" x 18" pedestal or be freestanding. All work must be visibly signed by the artist and priced for sale. No reproductions are permitted; photography and digital art must be limited to no more than 150 editions and signed and numbered. Work must be submitted online as a single JPEG image per piece (approximately 1900 pixels on the longest side, maximum 5 MB file size). The application deadline is March 20, 2023. Notifications will be sent by email on April 10. Shipped and hand-delivered work must arrive between April 24 and May 1. The exhibition runs May 3-28, 2023, with an opening reception on May 6 at 5-7 p.m., with awards announced at 6 p.m. This exhibition is open to residents of the United States only.
