About This Call
Northwest College seeks proposals for public artwork to be installed in or around the new Yellowstone Building on its Powell, Wyoming campus. This is a national call for artists of all styles and conceptual approaches. All mediums are encouraged except mega fauna and fountains; kinetic approaches are encouraged. Work may be existing or created for the site.
Two possible locations have been identified: The Plaza, an outdoor space protected from the elements serving as the main entry to the building and surrounded by glass on three sides, and a grassy triangle outside the building along the main sidewalk approach. Artwork could be entirely outside or reflected in interior public areas. Possible themes include the human condition, human relationships, Yellowstone, water (metaphoric sense), community, and partnerships. Proposed artwork should enhance and complement the architectural elements and visually support the purpose of the Yellowstone Building. All artwork must be durable, structurally sound, secure, site appropriate, and easy to maintain. Artwork should not modify existing structures or be structural in nature.
A total of $83,700 is available for the project, covering all design fees, materials costs, labor for fabrication and installation, identification label or plaque, and all necessary costs for planning, delivery, and installation. A separate amount is available for maquette development and travel to site for presentation. Applicants must submit 3-6 images and up to 2 videos. Initial applications are due August 1, 2014. Selected finalists will be asked to submit complete formal design presentations in November 2014 and will receive modest financial compensation. Final presentations will take place in Powell, Wyoming, with a decision by December 1, 2014. For more information and project specifications including plans and dimensions, visit http://wyoarts.state.wy.us/wac-program/test-grant-15/nwc-apb-call or contact Camellia El-Antably at [email protected] or 307-777-5305.
