About This Call

Denver Arts & Venues seeks to commission an artist or artist team to create a site-specific artwork for the Northfield Uplands Park Project in Stapleton. The project is open to all artists in the U.S. working in all media and materials. The budget for this commission is approximately $340,000, inclusive of all costs including design fee, consultation fees, structural engineering, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, travel, per diem, project documentation, and contingency.

The artwork will be located in a linear park stretching from Trenton Street on the west to Willow Street, in a residential neighborhood with an adjacent elementary school. The artwork must be complementary to this location and must not interfere with pedestrian, bike, or automobile traffic or distract drivers. The artwork must comply with Stapleton's Master Plan for Lighting including a "dark skies" initiative, must not reference the site's former use as an airport, and must be designed to be durable and require minimal maintenance to withstand Denver's intense sun, snow, wind, and temperature extremes.

Applications must be submitted online via www.callforentry.org by 11:59 p.m. MDT on March 9, 2014. Applicants must submit eight digital images of previously completed artworks, a statement of interest (500 words/2,000 characters maximum), and a one to two page résumé. Three to five semi-finalists will be selected and asked to prepare site-specific proposals; semi-finalists will receive a $2,000 honorarium to prepare and present proposals in person. The artist or team selected will be required to enter into a contract with the City and County of Denver and obtain required insurance. Contact Barbara Neal, public art consultant, at [email protected] or 720-865-4303.
