About This Call
The City of Raleigh Arts Commission invites artists or artist teams who are United States citizens and reside in Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia to submit qualifications for site-specific public art at Raleigh's Northeast Remote Operations Facility. Up to three finalists will be selected to develop concept proposals. Each finalist will receive a $1,500 stipend towards their proposal, travel, and related expenses.
Qualifications must be submitted via CaFÉ by 5 p.m. EDT on November 2, 2012. There is no application fee. The project budget for the selected commission is $80,000, inclusive of all expenses including design, fabrication, installation, travel, taxes and fees. Additional construction credits may be available based on the nature of the selected design.
The Northeast Remote Operations Facility, located at 3222 and 3228 Spottswood Street and 7704 and 7708 Burwell Street, will support Vehicle Fleet Services, Street Maintenance, Parks Maintenance and Building Maintenance departments' remote access and services, and will be used for emergency storm operations. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2013. Public art opportunities include exterior free-standing artwork as a gateway marker, an outdoor staff rest area or shelter, and artwork incorporating streetscape elements such as enhanced fencing, gates, campus-wide pathways, lighting and signage. The selection process will evaluate artistic merit, placemaking experience, collaborative public art experience, project management experience, and technical expertise. Finalists will be invited to Raleigh for interviews in January 2013, with the project awarded in February 2013. For questions, contact Kim Curry-Evans at (919) 996-4688 or [email protected].
