About This Call
North x Northwest is the Yellowstone Art Museum's third annual juried exhibition featuring the theme "Out of Isolation." Artists are invited to respond to their time in isolation, after isolation, and the societal changes brought on by Covid-19 and the tumultuous year of 2020. The exhibition is intended to introduce new artists to the region, showcase regional favorites, and exhibit emerging artists alongside their more established peers. Work must be created from January 2020 to present and not previously shown at the Yellowstone Art Museum.
The competition is open to all fine art media, including painting, drawing, graphic arts, collage, sculpture, photography, textiles, ceramics, video, and mixed media. Entries must not exceed 72 inches in any direction and/or 150 pounds. No entry that requires the artist to be present for moving or assembly will be accepted. Work that is hung on the wall must be hung using D-rings, a wire, or cleats and hardware must be installed prior to delivery. The non-refundable $45.00 entry fee entitles entrants to submit up to four entries. All work must be original and not previously exhibited at the Yellowstone Art Museum. The exhibition is open to artists of all genders and backgrounds, national and international.
The exhibition runs July 1 - October 10, 2021, with an Awards Reception on September 23, 2021. The museum will fund $5,000 in purchase awards for the YAM's permanent collection, and Juror's Choice and People's Choice Awards will also be presented. All accepted works will be insured while on the museum's premises with a maximum insurance value of $8,000 per entry. The YAM takes a 20% commission for the sale of works from this exhibition. Juror Mika Yoshitake, PhD is an independent curator with expertise in postwar Japanese art and extensive exhibition experience. Jurying will be judged using artist-submitted images, with final award selection occurring upon the juror reviewing the works in person.
