About This Call
Nor'Easter: The NBMAA 54th Annual Juried Members Exhibition is the New Britain Museum of American Art's opportunity to expose contemporary visual arts to a wide audience. This prominent showcase in the Northeast region highlights the exceptional work of emerging and established artists in all media.
The exhibition runs July 25-August 11, 2024, with a reception and awards ceremony on Sunday, July 28, 12-1:30 p.m. Prizes include First Prize ($1,000), Second Prize ($500), Third Prize ($250), and two Juror's Award and Visitor's Choice awards offering upgraded membership to Friend's Circle level. The juror is Kate Menconeri, Chief Curator and Director of Curatorial Affairs, Contemporary Art, and Fellowship at the Thomas Cole National Historic Site.
Eligibility: National and international artists 18 years or older with current NBMAA membership. Original works accepted in all media, executed during the past two years and never previously exhibited at this museum. Up to three works per artist may be submitted, with a maximum of one work per artist selected. Entry fee is $20.00 for the first piece and $10.00 per piece thereafter (up to three total works). Submissions are accepted only through CaFÉ before the May 31, 2024 deadline.
Artwork guidelines: Two-dimensional work must be framed and ready for installation with hanging hardware already installed; maximum 84 inches in any dimension and 75 pounds. Three-dimensional work cannot exceed 48 inches in any dimension and 150 pounds. Installations requiring assembly must include detailed installation instructions with reference photos. Artists must provide equipment for video or sound work. The museum prohibits glitter, wet paint, sharp objects, open flames, balloons, sprays, dangerous chemicals, weapons, pressurized containers, plants or animals, hazardous materials, or decaying materials. Selected works must be delivered ready to hang/display. Shipped artwork deadline is July 15, 2024. Artists must include return postage/shipping fees. Work not picked up by August 15, 2024 will be considered abandoned property. The museum will not be responsible for damage to artwork. Sales are encouraged but not required; the museum takes no commission and will provide artist contact information to interested buyers.
