About This Call
Overlap, an artist-run exhibition space in Newport, RI, invites applications for a fundraising group exhibition titled "No Place Like Home." The exhibition seeks a diverse selection of work centered on the theme of "home." Interpretations can be abstract, literal, or anything in-between. Overlap's gallery exhibitions emphasize a blend of craft and concept, featuring visually captivating bodies of work that combine informed material explorations with compelling ideas. Fifty percent or more of the sales of artwork from this exhibition will be donated to the Newport Housing Hotline and the Rhode Island Coalition to End Homelessness.
Eligibility is open to any artist living and working in New England and New York. The entry fee is $20 for up to 3 artworks; a 75% discount is available with coupon code REDUCEDENTRY for artists experiencing financial hardship. Submissions must include 1-3 images of original artworks completed within the last four years. All works must be for sale and priced between $100 and $1000. Wall-hung work must be ready to hang; three-dimensional works may not exceed 250 lbs. Applications must include title, date, materials, dimensions, and price for each work, plus a 4-8 sentence artist bio and a brief statement about how each work relates to the idea of "home."
Accepted artists will be notified by email on or before October 5, 2024. Work should be delivered to Overlap (112 Van Zandt Ave, Newport, RI) between November 6-9, 2024. The exhibition runs November 16 - December 21, 2024, with an opening reception on November 16 from 3-5pm. If a work sells, 25% of the sale price goes to the Newport Housing Hotline, 25% to the Rhode Island Coalition to End Homelessness, and 50% to the artist. The gallery takes no commission. Unsold work must be picked up or return shipping arranged by December 22, 2024, or by appointment in the first two weeks of January 2025.
