About This Call

The James Wise Gallery at Norfolk State University invites artists worldwide to submit work for the exhibition "No Justice, No Peace: Global Protest, Unrest, and Conflict." This exhibition responds to the significant global protests and civil unrest that have occurred since 2017, addressing topics including police brutality and racial disparity, climate change impacts, the COVID pandemic, and ongoing international conflicts. Artists are invited to contemplate this time of global crisis and respond through their art.

The exhibition is open to artists of all mediums, including drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, fiber, and mixed media. Applicants may submit up to two artworks created within the last two years. Submissions must include images of the artwork(s), an artist statement, and an artist biography. The entry fee is $35 for up to two artworks. Work samples may include up to 5 images and 3 videos, with a minimum of 1 total sample required. All work must be original and created within the past two years. There is no size limit for submitted artworks.

Entry deadline: September 24, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Jury deliberation will be completed by September 28, with accepted artists notified by email on September 29. Jurying will be done blindly, based solely on artwork images without knowledge of artist identity. Art must arrive at the James Wise Gallery by October 11. Exhibition dates: October 15 – December 10, 2021. Awards: Best of Show ($600), First Place ($300), Second Place ($200), Third Place ($100), and Honorable Mention.
