About This Call
The Art in Public Places Program of New Mexico Arts seeks site-specific art installations for the New Mexico Arts Centennial Project Space in celebration of New Mexico's centennial. Installations should be innovative and site-specific, with the work created to react to or change the space in some way. All media will be considered.
The project space is located at 54 1/2 East San Francisco Street (Suite 2), Santa Fe, and measures 13 feet by 18 feet with a 10-foot ceiling. A skylight in the center measures 117 inches by 43 inches (one side 4 feet deep, other side 5 feet deep). The space has a wood floor and 2 doors. The access elevator is 7 feet by 9 feet (materials should be no larger when transported). Media must be low maintenance, safe for both children and adults, and ADA compliant. Artists must comply with load limits of walls and floor; estimated weight should be provided if weight may be an issue. At removal, the artist or artist team will return the project space to its original condition, subject to New Mexico Arts approval.
Project amounts are between $3,000 and $5,000. The installation will be insured by New Mexico Arts during the exhibit up to $50,000. The space is insured for liability to the public. Artists should have their own liability insurance for installation and are responsible for all applicable expenses including materials, labor, insurance, taxes, installation, photographic documentation, and artwork retrieval. There is no medical or workers' compensation insurance provided. This project is open to New Mexico artists or artist teams in all stages of their careers. Submission requirements include a letter of interest, detailed project description, project budget, resume listing relevant experience, ten images of previously completed work or proposal images, and an annotated image list with title, media, dimensions, year of completion, and project description, budget, and commissioning agency if applicable. Exhibition dates: 9/23/11 - 6/30/12.
