About This Call
The New Jersey Historical Commission (NJHC), in collaboration with the Alice Paul Institute, is accepting letters of interest for commissioning digital content for the NJ Women Vote: The 19th Amendment at 100 Digital Project. This initiative commemorates the centennial of the passage of the 19th Amendment and American women achieving the right to vote. The project seeks to engage artists and humanities scholars to create digital content that addresses the theme of voting and suffrage, particularly related to New Jersey. Individual artists or humanities scholars may apply, and teams of scholars and artists are encouraged to apply together. Priority will be given to proposals where artists and scholars partner to create the work.
Projects that explore the history of women's suffrage and voting rights in the context of contemporary movements to broaden the involvement of women and communities of color are strongly preferred. Commissioned works will be shared widely on NJ Women Vote's digital platforms, including through social media and a project-specific website. This call is open to living United States resident artists or scholars, age 18 or older. Submissions are due July 12, 2020, and notification of awards will be made in August, with finished work expected for virtual exhibition in October.
Submissions must include a letter of interest (no more than 2 pages), CV or resume, and work samples (up to 4 images and/or 2 videos, plus links to websites). Selected applicants will receive a $5,000 stipend to cover all costs associated with the preparation and presentation of virtual content. The completion deadline for projects is October 12, 2020. For project-specific questions, contact Sara Cureton at [email protected].
