About This Call

This call seeks artists to design, fabricate, and install tile and/or mosaic murals in interior spaces of approximately 37' x 31' at two locations within a New Jersey juvenile justice facility. The project budget is $250,000, all-inclusive for complete tile and/or mosaic murals installed at both locations. The budget covers all costs including design, revisions, engineering, fabrication, transportation, installation, materials, samples, documentation, plaque/signage, permitting, and special installation costs.

This is an Expression of Interest (EOI) phase. Artists are encouraged to submit examples of previous work pertinent to public art projects of similar scope and budget size. The Art Selection Committee will review all submissions and select a shortlist of artists to prepare full proposals in a subsequent phase. Three selected finalists will each receive a $2,000 stipend for proposal preparation expenses. Additional architectural drawings and a question-and-answer meeting will be provided to finalists.

Applicants must submit a portfolio through CallForEntry.org including: a letter summarizing interest and experience in public art creation, a list of at least 3 references for similar projects, artist resume, 4-6 photographs/images of public art installations (ideally similar projects or materials), and artist website links. Applicants must be regionally based, residing no more than 150 miles from the New Jersey border, and over 18 years old. Employees of the State of New Jersey are not eligible. Selected finalists must register as vendors with the State and follow the State's procurement processes, which may require fees for registrations and certifications. Women and BIPOC artists are strongly encouraged to apply.
