About This Call
This call seeks artists to design and fabricate 6 unique circular medallions (4' in diameter) for external application on dormitory buildings at two New Jersey Juvenile Justice Commission campuses. Medallions will be installed roughly 14' above adjacent grade and may be fabricated from cut and/or painted metal, ceramic tile, mosaic, relief sculpture in carved stone, or other permanent materials. All medallions must be uniform in size and dimensions. Each campus will have its own design theme, with each medallion featuring a unique design to differentiate dormitory buildings.
The project budget is $100,000 all-inclusive for design, fabrication, and installation of all 6 medallions at both locations. This covers compensation for design and engineering services, materials, fabrication, transportation, insurance, documentation, plaque/signage, permitting, and installation. Three selected finalists will each receive a $2,000 stipend for proposal preparation. This is an Expression of Interest phase; artists should submit portfolios of past work rather than full project proposals. Selected finalists will be contracted to prepare and submit full proposals through a State procurement process.
Applicants must submit a letter of interest, artist resume, list of at least 3 references (preferably for similar projects), 4-6 photographs/images of public art installations, and artist website links through CallForEntry.org. All applicants must be regionally based, residing no more than 150 miles from the New Jersey border, and over 18 years old. Employees of the State of New Jersey are not eligible. Women and BIPOC artists are strongly encouraged to apply. Selected artists must register as vendors with the State and follow State procurement processes, which may require fees for registration and certification. Anticipated installation of completed work is Spring 2026.
