About This Call

The University of Oregon seeks artwork for the Next Generation Housing Project, a new multi-phase student residential development in Eugene that is envisioned as a model for sustainable, student-centered living. This dormitory project is intended primarily for first- and second-year students and is designed to support learning, well-being, belonging, and community through innovative design, resilient materials, and inclusive shared spaces. The University is looking for artworks that respond to the project’s setting at the intersection of campus, neighborhood, and landscape, drawing inspiration from nearby hills, forest, meadow, geology, and the history of the East Campus area. Artists may propose either existing works or new commissions. There are substantial opportunities for artists to engage both interior and exterior sites throughout the residence hall complex. Potential locations include entry plazas, lawns, courtyards, bike shelter and screen walls, façade art panels, roof and mechanical screens, as well as interior lobbies, gallery walls, lounge areas, stair and elevator zones, dining spaces, study areas, and a community kitchen. The University welcomes site-responsive, integrated, interactive, or sensory works that are durable, safe, and maintainable, and that can enrich daily student life by creating moments of curiosity, reflection, comfort, and connection.
