About This Call
PrintMatters is pleased to announce NEXT 2022, a contemporary print biennial to be held during PRINTHOUSTON 2022. The exhibition seeks innovative and challenging works that transcend process and materials and present printmaking as a versatile and adaptable medium. Artists are invited to submit works using lithography, relief, intaglio, monotype, serigraphy, or printmaking techniques applied to installations, ceramics, sculpture, and artists' books. Works using traditional techniques to speak to contemporary themes are also welcome. The primary technique(s) used must be listed above, and all work must be of excellent quality.
Eligibility is open to all artists 18 years and older residing in the United States. Works must be original, not exceed 48 inches in any direction, be completed in the last two years, and not previously shown in Houston. Student work, reproductions, and photography are not eligible. Collaborative work should be entered under only one artist's name. The entry fee is $35 for up to 3 entries. Artists may submit up to three images with an artist statement of no longer than 250 words. Selected artists will be required to submit a short biography, resume, and 300-dpi images by May 13.
The exhibition will be held at ELLIO Fine Art, 3201 Allen Pkwy Suite 180, Houston, TX 77019. Paola Morsiani, Director of the Brodsky Center at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, will serve as juror. The juror reserves the right to reject any work not accurately represented in the digital file. Work must be shipped ready to hang with gallery framing and appropriate hanging hardware, or hand-delivered on June 14. Shipped work is due by June 10. All works will be insured upon arrival. Hand-delivered work must be picked up Monday, July 11, 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Artists are responsible for return shipping costs and must include a prepaid return shipping label. The exhibition runs June 17 - July 9, with an opening reception June 17, 6-8 p.m. and juror's talk and awards June 18, 1:30-2:30 p.m. Cash awards will be presented. Prints may be offered for sale with a 50% commission to Ellio Fine Art and 50% to the artist.
